July 2011

How can I ever say Thanks to God for all He has done for me and for how good He has been to me? .... I begin each day with prayer and thanksgiving for His faithfulness during these 33 years of ministry.

When I went into my Supervisors office at the telephone company to tell her I was resigning, because I felt God was calling me to travel full time to sing (which later developed into not only singing, but also speaking). I shall never forget her response .... she said "I think that's great because when we had your 20th year luncheon and you sang for us .... I knew you were wasting your talent here." So, I said "Goodbye" and walked out of the phone company (hanging up on Ma Bell in 1978). It has now been 33 years of full-time ministry and God has proven Himself faithful to me .... He supplies my need each and every day .... as I continue to travel and proclaim the Good News.

When I look back on everything that has happened these 33 years .... I can say this one thing .... GOD DID IT ALL! For, all that I am or ever hope to be, I owe it all to Him .... to God be the Glory.

Isaish 25:1 - Oh Lord, You are My God., I will exhalt You, I will prasie Your Name, for You have done wonderful things; Your Counsels of old are faithfulness and true.

I flew to Dallas on the 4th of July to work in a studio on the campus of Christ For the Nations .... this wonderful ministry was founded many years ago by Gordon and Freda Lindsey. As I arrived on campus .... I felt like I was on "Holy Ground." I connected with students who are there being trained how to effectively reach the world .... what a vision God gave the Lindsey's .... and it is continuing.

For those of you who are not familiar with the process of recording (you just put it in a CD player and enjoy it, don't you? ) I thought I would spend some time in this newsletter to explain some of it to you.

The first thing that has to happen is to get a producer who most of the time is also the arranger. Mine was Fletch Wiley .... (if you remember way back to "Andrae Crouch and The Disciples" .... there was a young man who played trumpet, flute and flugelhorn). A dear friend of mine recently had Fletch as her producer/arranger, and when I listened to her CD, I knew I should ask him to help me on my project. It was great to reconnect with him after nearly 40 years. As we talked, I could sense his devotion to God and was so happy he agreed to help me.

We worked on the selection of the songs .... the arrangements, etc .... he made the contact with the studio that we spent 4 days in. One of the first things that has to be done .... is to call in the best players, which I believe I have on this project. Normally you need only 4 basic musicians ..... keyboardists, bass guitar, lead guitar and drummer. The charts are written by the arranger and these musicians come in, sit down and play the songs for me like we had been on the road for a long time. We were together for 12-hours .... then they pack up and leave.

Bradley (Keyboard)

The next day, the background singers come in and put all those "ooh's and aah's" in the songs .... that is a 10-hour day. Then one guy comes in, sits at the keyboard and adds the string sounds. He teaches at Christ For The Nations; his homeland is Russia.

When he leaves, the brass is added, so of course, I want to show you photos of Fletch playing the flute on some songs .... he is very good.

But none of this will work unless you have a great engineer .... and I did.

Randy Adams (Studio Owner and Engineer) and Ms. Lillie

I forgot to mention that when we are recording the songs with the musicians .... I am in another room singing the song to them as they play....they are listening through their headsets .... I am not singing loudly .... it is called a scratch vocal...just a guide for them and the background singers.

As many of you know, I have recorded many times, often I would remain in Nashville or wherever I went to record until I was done with everything. However, now that I am older and my voice has to have a rest, I decided to do things differently. I now bring everything we have recorded home with me....go into a studio near my house and begin to record all of my lead vocals....it is sooooooo much easier....because I can sing until my voice needs a rest, go home, relax a bit....go back when I feel like I can do another song .... sometimes the next day or whenever . It is working very well, I have already finished four of them .... I know you will be blessed as you hear "Amazing Grace" .... "The Love of God" .... "Rock of Ages" .... in fact all of them. And then when I have finished all of my lead vocals ..... the job of mixing begins. Mixing is to blend all the instruments, background singers and me .... so nothing is blaring out above the other.

After that, the mastering begins .... this is to make sure all of the songs are at the same level when you listen to a CD .... so one does not jump out at you as you drive down the road listening .... the mastering process is very important, or you would be reaching continually  at your recorder to turn the song up or to turn the next one down.

When that is done, it is time for the duplicating of the CD's .... in the meantime, I must work on the photo, work with a graphic artist to lay out all the information on the insert .... information regarding the songs and everything else that you read.

Finally to the printer .... then back to the duplicator with the insert so the CD can be packaged and shrink wrapped. They are ready to be picked up and shipped out to you .... please let me know if you would like to have one of my new CD's (click here).

I hope you learned something. I thought it would be interesting for you to hear how a CD goes from the beginning in the studio to the end .... it's quite a journey.

I'm very excited about this CD and know that God will use the songs to touch hearts and lives. For those who give towards this new CD production costs .... I have promised to put your name on the insert as a contributor. It is just a small way I can say thanks for your kindness. If you have not sent something and would like to .... please know there are more expenses I will still have .... so I will be happy for whatever you can send .... WHENEVER. Remember it is tax-deductible. Thank you. God will use your love offering to bless me and He will surely bless you. Amen.

Matthew 25:40 - The King will answer and say, "Assuredly, I say to you, in as much as you did it to the least of these my bretheren (Lillie), you did it to Me."

Are you in diffucult circumstances? Such as a broken relationship .... bad diagnosis from the doctor .... financial stress .... well God is there. His word says He will be with us always. We only have to believe His Word and Promises.

Numbers 23:19 - God is not a man that He should lie. Has He said it, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken and will He not make it good?

A big thank to those of you who have supported me with your prayers .... encouraging words and as well as financially. May God bless you and keep you in His care .... may you enjoy all God has for you.

I do have some busy months ahead.

See ya next time.....
Happy to be His Handmaiden
